Are you really a goblin?

Yes. Not metaphorically, not as a character, not just for show. I’m not playing pretend: I’m living authentically. Being a goblin is part of who I am, just like your identity is part of you. The best way to describe me is as an Otherkin, but with "added value."

Everyone has rumors, but just how old are you?

Old enough to know that age doesn't really matter when you stop counting. And I stopped counting a very long time ago.

What do you mean by “Otherkin”?

Otherkin are people who identify (spiritually, emotionally, or otherwise) as something other than human. Most of us have decided one way or another to shed our mundane human forms, and live as we see ourselves. For me, that means goblin. Pointed ears, big furry feet, blue hair, etc. For others, it may be wolves, elves, dragons, or beings not found in this world. It’s not a costume; it’s a calling.

Why do you dress like that in public?

Simply because I grew tired of buying a whole new wardrobe every 50 years or so just to "stay in fashion." So I decided to go back to the clothing I feel most comfortable in, which just happens to be late-Regency/early-Victorian era. But if you want a more philosophical answer, I dress this way because I can, and because I should. I want people to know it's okay to dress however you want. Every time I go out, I become visible in a world that often demands invisibility. Velvet, silver, and goblin feet are my form of joyful resistance.

Can I talk with you in person?

Absolutely. So long as you're respectful, curiously brave people are always welcome. I’d much rather you come up and say something than walk around with questions or burdens you don’t need to carry alone.

That said, I may not always have time for a long conversation, but I will always offer kindness, a smile, and a moment of presence. I used to be a bartender, so I’m a good listener, and I’ve heard just about everything.

Can I take your picture?

Certainly! You don't even have to ask (believe me, enough people do without asking, and that's perfectly fine!), but it'd be nice if you did... In fact, ask me for a selfie, and I'll say yes, almost every time! All I ask is if you post it on Instagram, to tag me (@charles_the_goblin) in it so I can share and enjoy it too!

Are hugs really free?

Always. If you see me and need one, just ask. (Consent goes both ways, of course.)

What about the goblin coins?

Ah yes, the "legendary" goblin coins. Everyone is curious about them, and yet so few people earn one. There's a whole page about them here.

Are you available for public appearances?

Sometimes! It depends on the event, the setting, and whether there’s good lighting. If you have something in mind, reach out through the contact page and we’ll talk.
